It really depends on the area. In Massachusetts, the DJs range from about $1000-$1500 for a decent one. Just be careful about trying to find a cheap DJ, the DJ and photographer are two things you really don’t want to skimp on. An annoying DJ can ruin a wedding, I’ve seen it happen. Make sure to get recommendations. I reckon the best way to find a excellent DJ is to question around. We booked ours because we saw him in action at another wedding.

Geez! Where do you live? If you live in a huge city I guess that’s reasonable. My Dj is charging $350. Normally in my area it’s around $500 even if.

WOW! that seems pricey. You can also try http://www.craigslist.com under services. Someone on yahoo mentioned about going on there to find a photographer for my sons wedding. I went on there in suspense to find a deal, well… i sure did, got a photographer for FREE! She was trying to build her portfolio to get into another company and needed pictures of her work, so she was on time didn’t have to pay for anything and got all the pictures and had them place on a disc. She was pleased with the turn out only because it was a military wedding and she thought it would be wonderful in her portfolio. She also mentioned in the shape up that she can use the pics. for her portfolio. We said no prob. You may find a Dj on that website. be sure to question for references.
    Congrats!!!

We were looking at an all-inclusive wedding venue place (not really our style) and they told us that our package included 4 hours of DJ service that was a $450 value (for a Saturday night) so that should give you some thought of the cost.

$1000 seems like a lot. I wouldn’t pay more than $700 for a REALLY excellent DJ for 6 hours.

$1150 for ours for a Saturday in central PA. Even if, the DJ is traveling 2 hours from the Philadelphia area and is the company owner… the company’s other DJ’s are less.

Depends where you live and what he is offering. I live in NJ and we got quotes from $250 (college student’s side gig) to $1500 with lighting and stuff. Our DJ is charging $795 for 5 hours. The better questions to question are, A) do you like the DJ? B) does he have excellent references? and C) what can you afford to pay? Based on those parameters you should be able to find a DJ that suits your needs. $1000 is about avergae for 6 hours where I live; that would be a excellent DJ with plenty of experience. If you know anyone who has used a DJ in the past or you attended a function with a DJ you liked you could always check them out.

    Excellent luck!
