Affair. There is no school to be a wedding planner. It’s an independent affair that you would open yourself. Even if, you may also want to look into top/interior decorating/botany classes since they are all relevant.
perhaps marketing or communications?
I don’t reckon there is a college major of "wedding preparation." try event coordinator or get a degree in small buisness because that’s pretty much what it is. Excellent luck.
You don’t need a 4-year college degree for wedding/event preparation. But learning marketing or affair administration could help you run your own affair if you chose to enter the field. The best thing to do is see if you can get a job with a wedding/event planner or caterer. Then you learn the ropes from inside and eventually you’ll have enough affair contacts to do the job on your own. It takes knowing people and being an insider in order to get the best deals for clients. Better deals = more clients. Excellent luck!

I studied Hospitality Management, worked as a hotel manager and then became an event manager where I gained lots of experience dealing with all sorts of events. After 12 years I set up my own company wedding preparation affair. http://www.cheap-wedding-solutions.com/
You do see lots of courses advertised to become a wedding planner but from my experience I reckon that is too limited.
Excellent luck with your career
First of all, congratulations on preparation out your path in advance!
Unfortunately, there are only a few universities in the nation that offer an actual event preparation degree or courses; for the list, go to: http://www.careers-in-event-pr.....hools.html
I run a website that helps people start their career in event preparation; and I nearly always urge that you pursue a degree in Affair with a minor in Marketing. There are two reasons for this (1) if your event preparation career doesn’t take off, or if you choose it’s not for you, you still have a degree that is applicable toward countless other options. And, (2), many people who go into event preparation eventually want to start their own affair, someday; and this background is imperative.
Also, I strongly urge that you use your time while you’re in school to get as much hands-on experience as you can. Join a sorority and get on the event preparation committee; or find local events in your community (such as Race for the Cure, or any fund raiser for any non-profit) and volunteer. Volunteer for as many events as you can; because truly, the only two things that will separate you in this industry are experience, and contacts.
And finally, learn about the industry. Event preparation and wedding preparation are two entirely separate career paths, and don’t transfer as easily as you might reckon. If you reckon you want to be an event planner someday, don’t start off in weddings; stick to events.
