How much does an average wedding cost? Can anyone break down the cost for me, like…..church rental….cake….food….limo or carriage ride. Nothing extravagant just a nice wedding.

The cost of a wedding is in large part due to the location and time of the year. I spent approximately $25,000 on my wedding–150 people, with a full top-shelf open bar in NY.

Church: $100 (originally $300–the priest cut us a break because my husband is a Marine)
    Flowers: $1,200
    Photo/Video: $5,000
    DJ/MC: $1,200
    Limos: $1,250
Venue: $15,000 (this included all the food, liquor and my cake)

We negotiated everything in our wedding. Don’t be afraid to ask because vendors know that you are planning on a wedding and are willing to pay the higher prices, so if you don’t ask you won’t get a discount. It never hurts to try.

I found this website really helpful. It put things in perspective, plus, shut my dad up when I told him that no, $3 per invitation is not on the "high" end!

It really depends on where you live, try this site: http://www.costofwedding.com to get averages.

This is what it’s costing me for a wedding with 150 guests:
    Site rental: $800
Cake: Included by my reception hall, but usually about $500
    Food & Liquor: $10,000+
    Limo: $200

This will all depends on you? The size of your wedding, where, guest list, food, alcohol, vendors, real or fake flowers…it’s expensive…the cheapest way is JOP. Justice of peace and then have a reception later…
