It’s fantastic to see someone know exactly what they want at your age.
I am not exactly sure about the courses offered at Spelmen. I went to their site and I did see a link for "requesting information". You should send them a request for info.
Some help that I may give is listed below. I hope it is of some help.
Read magazines and on-line articles about wedding preparation.
Start checking out every affair related to what you want to do. (florists, furniture rentals, marriage gown sales and rentals, tent rentals, wedding/reception halls, etc…)
Prepare yourself in every way you can now. When you do enter in the the wedding preparation workforce, you will be so well-informed that everyone will want you.
As for learning…
Study books on public language, time and people management, negotiation, and sales.
Some of the best authors are Anthony Robbins and Aggravate Beckwith. I have studied them, and I also suggest them to many of my students.
Excellent luck. And when things start to get really crazy, and they will, remember the best moments(Like the happiness you brought to a bride.). This will help you in the worst moments.
It’s essentially event preparation so classes/a major in public relations would help since you’d learn how to plot and carry out events, communicate and negotiate with vendors, learn tactics to place the bride at ease, and the day of the wedding: Crisis Management and etc, etc. And since you’ll be working on the bride’s budget classes in accounting will help too. Art and Music classes would doubtless be a useful addition.
Affair studies would be ideal for that career path as there are many aspects to owning a affair that you need to consider & be aware of.
Wedding preparation has a lot to do with imagination along with tradition so I doubt you would need to complete a course based solely on wedding preparation. Researching online sites & magazines could be of benifit even if & help you prepare a profile for individual wedding themes.
Maybe an event management course could help too.
It’s the type of career where there is no one specific major. Like the other posters said, it’s excellent to have a background in public relations, affair, top, and even hospitality (hotel/restaurant management). Spelman is a liberal arts college, and it’s doubtless a fantastic place to get a excellent, general education. You certainly need to be both organized AND creative and excellent at crunching numbers AND excellent with people. A lot of people do not go to school preparation on becoming a wedding planner, but find they have a knack for it and run with it.
When you get a small grown-up, try to apprentice for a wedding planner. That kind of experience cannot be taught in the classroom. Look for work with a caterer, or get a job as a waitress at a catering hall. It’s not glamorous work, but it will give you an inside look at what it is like to run a wedding.
Excellent luck!
You are so courageous to pick this profession. The course I took was owing to the association of marriage consultants. ABC. I don’t reckon that age is a factor so you may be able to start now. Roosevelt College in Chicago has a Event Planner Degree program. Get info from them and maybe Spelman willl allow you to tailor your own degree program. Women can be challenging. Pick your profession well. Excellent Luck!
you do realize that means you never have a weekend off EVER, aptly?
