The one we hired does the ceremony also. Ours was $960 for the ceremony plus 4 hour reception but the restaurant also extra a 7.75% sales tax & 20% gratuity so it came out to about $1200 all together. We've chose to just cancel everything & go to Maui instead. It all adds up so quick.

It depends on where you live even if. Cost of living varies a lot from place to place.

EDIT: Defense me? Thumbs down for a price? Yeah, like I wouldn't go for a $300 DJ if I could. I was questioned a question, I gave an answer. Maybe if if I lived in a small town & paid zip, nothing & zero, I would get thumbs up. Ha ha!

ours was $450. i would never pay more than $500, there is no reason to, they are all the same. they don't do the ceremony music, only the reception. you don't need one for the ceremony if you are getting married in a church, b ecause the church has someone that does the music for them.

Well I am sorry to say not all DJ's are the same, not even accurate. You get what you pay for here I believe.
Our DJ cost $375 but not very well known and have not seen them in action. We are looking at another DJ now that we did get to see in action and he costs $2000. Since we called him once, he keeps calling back to get us to book, but we won't until he goes down some more on his price and of course as he said our date is the only one left open for that month. He is down to $1700 on his price but we will wait until he comes down some more and if not oh well. But I would really like to have him, he was awesome. DJ's cost anywhere from $300-$3000. Experience matters and a DJ can make or break a party in my own personal opinion.
Some dj's will do the ceremony for you some won't it depends on what you want.

Most in our area charge $750 for a 4 hour reception and $65 each additional hour… And only do the reception. Since I had absolutely all the songs picked out and the only thing we really needed them for was to play the music and announce the announcements, we were not willing to pay that much (would have been about $950 for the number of hours we wanted)…so we are doing it ourselves and having a friend make the announcements.

i live in nyc and my dj cost me $800 dollars but that is because he's a family friend. I have him for unlimited hours. He's giving me a light show. he does games where people win prizes. Plus he's a dj that works for a radio station here in the city. so overall i'm getting an incredible price.
I was looking at other people before him and they were charging me $700 for 4 hours plus if i wanted him to use his illumination he would charge more. and it would just add up. He's also the master of ceremony who will introduce us when we are ready to come in the reception.

Usually between 400-1000. They can also do the wedding march if you are having the ceremony in the same place you are having the reception, but if they have to go from two different locations they might charge you extra, remember they have equipment they have to set up.

We had an organist play at our wedding, but we hired a DJ for our reception. He played the whole night (5:00- midnight) for $500 and was very excellent.
I have never heard of anyone having a DJ for the ceremony even if. I reckon most people have an organist or string quartet.
