I reckon this is a excellent thought. Lots of people are doing the mp3 player/DIY DJing at weddings these days, but this is better because your sister will have an "official" person to take care of the DJ stuff. I’d say that beyond the obvious — getting all the song info from your sis and her fiance — that you certainly do with the equipment and hopefully get into the venue in advance to check everything out and make sure you know what you’re doing. The person who suggested shadowing a real DJ for a night had some fantastic advice, too. Excellent luck and have fun!

If you have time, I would find a local DJ and offer to help them for free. That way you can get a feel for how it’s done and pick up some fantastic tips along the way.

Laptop and speakers is a common way to DJ a reception. I might hold off on the illumination given you’re experience.

The key will be to do a fantastic job and keep it simple. Better to exceed everyone’s expectations by keeping is simple and doing fantastic, than to try to take on too much and fall small.

    Best of luck!

Google the most played wedding dance music — I mean as far as to really get people dancing. The bride and groom should also be able to help with the list a lot as far as what music they want for what events at the wedding.
You should doubtless get a microphone as well so you can announce vital moments in case people aren’t paying attention.
You also might want to have an thought of the timeline they want — like do they want to do the bouquet toss after the cake cutting, or before it? Because if they don’t have a wedding planner, it might kind of be left in your hands to keep everything moving along.
    Excellent luck!
