COMPLETELY DOABLE! I did it for about 200 people!! And it can be done TASTEFULLY!
Check all prices. I did a garden theme….the girls all bought dresses of their choice…in the same color. Shoes were similar. I bought my dress…which was perfect, for under $125. The decorations….I bought a bunch of flowers at walmart….decorated huge terra cotta pots, place a bunch of gerbera daisies and geraniums inside, ivy creeping out with bows to match. (plants can later be planted in your flower garden or given as gifts)
I then bought a bunch of the small terra cotta flower pots and used those as candle holders for the votive candles (fill the hole so the wax doesn’t leak out) or use the tealight candles but they won’t last long).
We did BBQ. Had a friend cook all the meat….and supply it up. We spent $$ on the photographer but made sure to place the disposable cameras on the table. NO. They don’t have to be the wedding disposable cameras…..I just place the cheapest cameras I could find with a cute small themed note next to them that said - help us remember our night by shooting a memory or two! Or a touch similar. The cake: believe it or not….I got it at WALMART! I took a picture of one in with me that I wanted and they came ‘accurate’ to it.
You just have to add everything up and watch your money closely! You also have to not be TOO picky with the details!!
Congrats on the wedding….congrats on the baby and most importantly sending you and yours the very best in the future!!
You haven’t mentioned how many guests you are preparation to invite. That will go a long ways in giving you suggestions.
Dont have a marriage party
Skip the favors
Dont do flowers as centerpieces, do candle preparations
Make your own invitations
make your own invites
use silk flowers instead of real
small cake, or cupcake tree
Afternoon reception (no formal meal)
Lower the amount of guests
Small wedding pary (i am having 6 counting my fiance and myself)
i bought my dress ar Sears and like it

going to doubtless get brides maids dresses there also
It is not impossible! there will be a lot of DIY, but you can make it happen! Chair rentals, call your local rental place & see how much it costs. You will doubtless keep the ceremony pretty small, as its in a backyard, but that is no huge deal. Just to let you know, October is a BIG month for weddings, so the price of some things might be higher, like the reception hall, catering etc. I know a guy who DJ’s and he said October is his busiest month for weddings! Also, consider doing it on a friday evening, instead of saturday. That will help cut costs too. For dresses, go with a touch simple, like black cocktail dresses for the bmaids. Most girls already have these anyway, & I reckon they look very classy for a wedding. You can always "add" a small detail with detachable sashes in your colors. What is gonna cost you the most is the reception. Food & beer is expensive!
It’s really possible if you’re getting married in someone’s back yard. Try a potluck and you provide the meat. Here are a couple of sites that have helped me immensely. I’m in suspense for the same budget.

do as much of it yourself as you can. (and there is alot you can do buy yourself) Wedding favors can be homade. Go to a wholesaler for flowers and do them yourself. When i was married we had both the Ceremony AND reception in my aunts back yard, except his mom’s backyard is uber small you could consider a touch like that too. Cut back on people you are inviting, have a smaller wedding party. Food is definately a touch you can do yourself, I was married in late september for the food I had 3 different kinds of soup that we kept warm in huge crockpots. I had two aunts and my grandma each make my fav soups so that didn’t cost anything. we also served bread, we just went down to the bakery we got our cake from and ordered some pretty loaves of bread, which was still cheap. For the cake you can make it yourself, you can get a smaller one, or you could do a touch like cupcakes, those are all cheaper options. Look for dresses on Ebay or other places you can find them used, they will be cheaper. If you can’t stand the thought of getting a used dress, davids marriage always has $99 dresses that are gorgeous. For chairs and table clothes, you can usually find a marriage store (or even a mortuary) that can rent them for not a ton of money. excellent luck.
Trust me, It’s not hard to pull off a very gorgeous wedding for cheap, you are just going to have to place some more of your time and work into it.
-Having an early afternoon wedding will save you tons on food. Catering is sooo expensive! You won’t have to do full entrees-you can just do finger food and appetizers, such as mini sandwiches, fruit/cheese/meat tray, etc.
-Do a candy bar instead of individual favors. Buy a bunch of candies(in your color theme if your prefer) and place them in clear containers. Place out small bags or takeout containers for guests to fill on their own. http://www.flickr.com/photos/f...../63038122/
-Make your own invites! Just buy the paper at your local craft store like Michael’s or Joann’s and just print them yourself! So simple! They have a lot that are ready to print too.
-You can find tons of white or ivory dresses at many specialty stores at the mall. Especially aptly now cause it’s prom season. A lot less than a "wedding dress" and no one can even tell. Jessica Mcclintock also makes pretty wedding dresses for under$350. I bought mine for under $200! http://www.jessicamcclintock.com
-As for a place for your reception, look into local banquet halls, club houses, garden clubs, etc. They’re usually reasonably priced and you can most of the time have your ceremony there too. That was you won’t have to worry about chair rentals.
Hope this all helps. Excellent luck!
We’re doing it for $5000.00. It is possible.
Helpful hints
1. Buy in bulk. http://www.dollartreedirect.com you can get dollarstore stuff in bulk and save.
2. As for chair rental, when you call the rental company question for a discount. If they rent for $3.00 each, say if I rent 100 can you do it for $200.00
3. For your cake, places like Publix and Walmart do wedding cakes ( I LOVE PUBLIX ) and they have fantastic choices. My friend got her’s there $140.00 for a two level, square cake..It was better than some that I’ve have. They picked it up the day before and place the flowers on themselves.
4. Shop around. And use the "Somewhere else told me they could do it for $00.00 cheaper." Places want your affair even if it means taking $30.00 of the top of a $200.00 order.
5. For your favors - we bought those sparklers (for 4th of july) and a huge thing of lighters, we got sticky return marks and printed our name and wedding date and bought clear hair rubber bands (the very small ones that come in a bag of 200) and had those sitting in the basket… Everyone loved it.
I hope these thoughts have helped you.
Excellent luck and Best wishes.
We did my nieces wedding in the back yard. We had a lot of finger foods that people could graze on,I am a florist so I did all the flowers in silk flowers- inexpensive and fantastic for lasting, a family friend made the wedding cake as a wedding gift, and if a bar is necessary, have a spiked punch, wine and beer.
I had a backyard reception that went really well and was pretty cheap. I bought all my chicken (pre-cooked) from a large grocery, and bought the remaining items (in bulk) at Sam’s Club, Gordon Food Services, and Costco. You can make a very simple menu, but still have some fantastic food! We had the chicken, of course, but also roast beef sandwiches…some friends made potato salad and pasta salads…my cake came from Walmart ($130 - 3 tiers), rolls, you name it. You can also make things like mostacciolli ahead of time and freeze it.
Decorations can be really simple if you have the time. I saved salsa jars, removed the marks, filled them partially with sand, painted some glitter on some shells, threw in an ivory pearl and votive candle, tied a ribbon around the top - and they were awesome!
There’s sooooo many things you can do so inexpensively. Just depends on your theme, what kind of flowers you want, etc. My wedding wasn’t elablorate - I had two girls in it, and they bought their dresses at David’s Marriage. My dress I bought at a Total Wedding outlet store ($200), and a lot of the decorations I did myself.
You could also take a peek at excellent ole’ Martha Stewart’s website - she has a lot of excellent thoughts.

Congrats on the baby & your marriage-to-be!
Hi Christy and congratulations!
Yes, it can be done….but you will most likely have to scale back your thoughts.
You have the venue for the ceremony. I would keep the same venue for the reception….his mom’s backyard.
You can get a dress honestly cheap if there is a David’s Marriage near you. If not, look online at discount marriage stores.
Bridesmaid’s dresses: Where I live, the bridesmaids buy their own dresses and shoes.
plants: Look at florists in grocery stores….same with your cake….go to a bakery in a grocery store. Both will be much cheaper than a regular florist or a regular bakery.
Don’t forget to allow money for:
~ the marriage ticket
~ the minister or wedding officiant
~ invitations
~ rehearsal dinner
~ photographer
~ gifts for attendants
~ You will need to rent chairs, tables, etc. Call a local rental focal top.
I would have a small marriage party: a maid of honor and best man. Or a couple each….but leave it at that! This will cut down on the cost of the rehearsal dinner also.
I would also have a small guest list. Family and accurate friends only.
Food and beverages: Make the food yourself or get it catered. Again, I would limit the number of guests! That cuts down on the food and beverage bill.
