Check out wedding galleries at http://www.theknot.com I have picked out details for about 6 different weddings I’d consider my "perfect wedding" now. lol. They have so many fantastic thoughts on there!
I would do tall silver or glass vases with tall Orchids (you can get these in dark colors) and decorator sticks, You can have crystals hanging from these for royalty.
Watch platinum weddings on bravo tv to get royal thoughts, that you can make yourself on a budget.
Where are you having your wedding ceremony as I would co-ordinate it with the environment. Or.. to be completely different from all other brides, why not like the late 1800’s when wedding dresses were black with a long white veil. I could provide you with a photograph from my fantastic-grandparents:-)
Since it is spring, and you want it to be elegant, have you thought of a fuschia color? Like a dark pink? You can have your girls wear dark satin pink dresses… Or, just do the standard black, and your theme can be "black and white affair"…. Crowns may be too tacky, but I suppose it depends on the dresses, and what type of crowns…
How about a Medieval theme? The Renaissance was an fascinating period and elegant. Knights and Ladies.
You should be able to find thoughts in costume venues.
If not that theme try a Civil War or Southern Belle/ Gone With the Wind theme. Either one could be different and elegant. Arrive at the church or garden in a Carriage. Hold the wedding in a garden in your area.Or if you happen to live in the south a plantation. Here in NC there is Orton plantation and the Gardens are gorgeous in May. or someplace similar in your area. Hope this helps and congratulations.! Excellent luck for the future.
Don’t worry to much about it being "spring" colors. I got married in February and my colors were pink and ivory. My mom kept saying my colors should be darker because of the season - but I just did the colors that I liked and it looked gorgeous.
For a theme you could use red roses. Roses are very elegant and classic - and the red is a nice dark color. You can combine the red with some black and hints of white. It’s a very elegant look.
Or, you could go with an "Ancient Hollywood" theme. You can use black, red and gold or silver as your colors.
Here are some things you can look at that might give you a few thoughts. I hope that it helps. Excellent luck!

The best way to develop a theme is to reckon about what defines you as a couple. Are you the couple known for being huge sports fanatics? animal lovers? world travelers? gourmet chefs? Once you reckon about what you have in common and what you’re "known" for a theme will follow. You can tie your theme into everything and can clarify to your guests why you did it (and if your guests know you well enough, they’ll make the connection themselves!).
When you’re ready to order invitations you can have them custom made by B. Joyful Invitations to coordinate with your theme. http://www.bjoyfulinvitations.com
