J Crew has wedding dresses, and many are under $1000! They are lovely!
Try preownedweddingdresses.com and oncewed.com. GOOD LUCK!!!

If you haven’t already done so, check out Davids Marriage. They have some gorgeous dresses at decent prices. Excellent Luck:)

Make it yourself. Surely–well, hopefully–even if you don’t know how to sew very well, you know someone who can help you. that’s the least expensive way.

You have to be assertive with these salespeople sometimes. You should frank about what you are willing and wanting to spend. if you find the salesperson pushing you to try things out of your budget then you need to place question her to respect your budget. If that does not work, then question for a manager or take your affair elsewhere. Don’t let another person dictate your dress buy.

I do not where you are. I am in Chicago, and my sister works at a resale shop for wedding, bridesmaids, and prom dresses. I am sure there should be one near you. But if not try looking online, there maybe an online resale shops for wedding dresses. My sister said, they had dresses at her shop that cost 2,000-3,000, and they were being sold for under 1,000. most under 500.00

I was able to buy a dress evenly priced for $1,000 for $500 all because it was missing some beading and a couple strings were hanging but i had that easily fixed by the seamstress who worked there. So look for dresses that have a touch incorrect with it and you can get money off for it.

i got mine at a local marriage shop and spend about $900 on a maggie sottero (link in source box)
unfortunately i found out after i place the deposit down that i could have saved a lot owing to research and dedication.
my aunt knows a woman that used to re-sell donated used dresses and donate the money to charity… with the economy the way it is a bunch of shops in NYC (New York City) have been going out of affair and liquidating the dresses they have left for cheap! so she’s been snatching them all up and promotion them really cheap - unfortunately i don’t know the woman’s name or anything so i can’t hook you up but question around and see if you can catch a affair on it’s way out - sucks for them and rocks for you!

Google used or cheap wedding dresses and you’ll be surprised at some of the prices. If you are wanting a touch relatively simple, a excellent alterations/ dress maker may be able to make one for you, too.

    Try a consignment shop

I would urge trying on gowns somewhere near the top of your budget and maybe a bit over it. Do this and instead of buying the dress, confirmation the designer, style number and the size that fits you. There are many online retailers that do not offer fittings or very excellent return policies, but sell the dresses at significantly discounted prices. If you know the designer, the dress and the size that you want, you can take benefit of these deals. An example of one of this retailers is House of Brides.

Truck Shows? I’m not sure how they work, but I know sometimes they make known a % off certain dresses. That’s always a excellent thing.

If you have the means to travel, Kleinfeld’s in New York City, has a huge blowout sale every year. I’m a huge fan of that show, "Say Yes to the Dress" on TLC and I’ve seen the episode about the blowout sale. You have to stand in line, but it might be worth going and spending a few days in New York on vacation and one day at the sale. Based on the show, they have dresses that normal retail for a few thousand (doubtless $2,000-$5,000) promotion for $1,000 or maybe less.

More than likely, they’re sample dresses, so brides have tried them on. But, I’d reckon a place like Kleinfeld’s doubtless handles their samples dresses better than a David’s Marriage. Their general clientele has money (and usually lots of it), so I’m sure they’re not showing a bride with a $5,000 budget a stained sample dress. Usually people with money are sticklers for stuff like that, so they doubtless keep things very clean.

So, that might be a excellent option for you!

I’d say…get a touch on ebay, you can get a touch for $200, that is nearly new and is worth MUCH more =)

If you’re from Toronto there’s apparently store on Orfus that sells all its wedding dresses at fantastic prices. I don’t know the name of the shop even if, sorry.

There’s also The Brides’ project. People donate their wedding dresses to this organisation for brides to buy and the proceeds go to cancer research. They have some really fantastic deals there.

Call around to local marriage shops and see when/if they have sample sales. I scored my dress for $650 as a sample, in nearly groundbreaking new shape up. It’s an Ulla Maija from 3 years ago that didn’t sell well, so the price I paid was about 15% of the original price. If you do choose to buy a sample, check for wear & tear in addition to sweat stains. You don’t want to buy a touch that may need to be cleaned, most likely it won’t be cleaned to your liking.

The others girls suggestions are also fantastic!

Believe it or not I have seen some really nice dresses at Excellent Will. these have to be 2-3K dresses for $75. So if you don’t mind second hand, check Excellent Will, Salvation Army, etc. any of the charity thrift stores.

Do what I did….go on ebay and buy one. They custom make it to your size and it’s really cheap. I paid $188.00 for a cheap knock off of an Alfred Angelo dress, and no one isn’t going to know it’s not the real thing except for me. I see spending $1000.00 on a dress that your going to wear once is ridiculous! But it’s up to you, and if you don’t want to do that, be assertive with the lady, because it’s your day not hers and you know what you want!

I live in Sarnia ON and I know for example there were some really nice dresses (normally like $800) on clearance for $50 at a local marriage shop in a mall downtown. Try small mom and pop shops- they make nothing if the dress never sells :)

seriously ROSS( as in Ross dress for less) you might not find one aptly away but if you look around sometimes they have some. My sister bought her wedding dress for $20 && it was gorgeous it originally cost $170.. & no one ever knew she got it there well except me. if your not picky about shopping there and really want to find a deal try it..
